Deep Roots

“May love be the rich soil where their lives take root. May it be the bedrock where their lives are founded…” ~ Ephesians 3:17, the VOICE

Did you ever notice how plants can sprout up in the most unlikely of places? While hiking last week, I saw this huge tree growing out of boulders that were probably placed there during the last ice age. What are the odds of a tiny seed finding enough soil, moisture, and sunlight in a tiny crevice to take root and grow? And yet, against all odds, such growth happens all the time in the most unlikely of places.

My hiking companion noted that numerous trees had been uprooted and downed by recent rains and wind, but the stalwart tree growing out of the rock thrived. If that can happen with a tiny seed taking root in ice-age boulders, imagine what can happen when we are planted in love? Paul nails it in Ephesians 3:17, love is the rich soil, the bedrock in which our lives take root and grow.

With the radical, deep, rich soil of God’s love. ~ Rev. Anne
