“He always had the nature of God, but he did not think that by force he should try to remain equal with God. Instead of this, of his own free will he gave up all he had.” ~ Philippians 2:6-7 GNT
Last week it happened again. The name Brookie, my secret recipe that combines brownies and cookies, was used by someone else. I discovered the infringement while reading an entry in Daily Guideposts that referred to Brookies by name, and stating they came from a commercial bakery. It’s not the first time that’s happened. An exact replica showed up in a snack bar at Disney Land eight years ago.
I wondered what heights my culinary creation might have taken me to, had I copyrighted the recipe years ago. After that self-centered thought, I remembered sharing my recipe with others, simply because they liked them. I’d let go of the recipe freely, of my own free will, simply out of love. Maybe this Jesus thing has worn off on me.
Below is the recipe, no strings attached. ~ Anne
Heavenly Brookies
Ingredients:
One box or bag of chocolate chip or peanut butter cookie mix
One bag or box of brownie mix.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Spray a 9” x 13” cake pan with cooking spray.
Prepare cookie mix as per package directions, substituting cooking oil for butter. The substitution measurements can be found on the cookie package instruction panel.
Spread the cookie dough evenly on the bottom of the cake pan.
Prepare the brownie mix as per package directions, using two eggs for more cake-like brownies.
Spread the brownie mix evenly over the cookie dough layer.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes. Check often for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the middle. If it comes out clean, the Brookies are done.
