Green Pastures

“The Lord is my shepherd, I have every thing I need. He lets me rest in green pastures. He leads my by peaceful streams.”

Psalm 23:1-2 NLT

Izzy and Jackson love to go for walks. We’ve made several treks to Seven Ben’s State Park and walked next to the River which is peaceful right now. They are also exploring our fenced-in backyard, which is a lushly green right now.Our lawn right now is lushly green.

The other day I was doing a bit of gardening. I turned around to discover the pups rolling on their back in one of the grass heaps. They looked like they were in puppy heaven. When I whistled to come, they came flying across the yard, tails wagging.

It was then that I noticed their wavy coats were covered with grass clippings. Their little forelegs were green. Their wagging tails looked vaguely porcupine-like.

Food and water, a world to explore, with me guiding and following them is the good life. And then it hits be that this is also a story about our Good Shepherd.

What we need, rest in the loveliest of places, and peaceful streams, and messy. Thanks, Good Shepherd for your presence.

Always meaningful, Anne! Especially… and made me smile, after seeing my brother in hospital in Lynchburg. He’s a retired pastor, still serving, ten years younger than I, diagnosed with kidney failure. At home tonight, heard from another old friend … a retired pastor as well, who lived on my street growing up, but now lives in a CCRC a few miles from me … diagnosed with cancer … throughout his body. WHEW we’re vulnerable, but we believe God wants the joy of the puppies, even as we navigate late life! Love those pups (but thankful they are yours, Anne!
