“Grandchildren are the reward of old people. And children are proud of their parents.”
~ Proverbs 17:6, International Children’s Bible
So here is Part 2 of the Surprise Birthday Story. I mentioned that it was at Crackin Crabs, a chain that creates a “dive-like” atmosphere, including an open invitation to write graffiti on the walls. Most of the messages on the walls were suitable for a PG audience, but not the bathroom stalls. I will leave those messages to your imagination.
Just before the party broke up, my three granddaughters headed to the restroom. I followed them a short time later. I could hear all three of them in the handicapped stall, talking and giggling. Earlier in the day, I’d been thinking about what I missed most about my sisters is shared belly laughs. Their shared giggles did my heart a heap of good, even if what they were laughing about was cringe worthy. It hit me that the love of laughter lives on. It was then that I heard the sweet voice of 8-year-old Anne-Sophie reading the graffiti aloud, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only son Jesus.” Halleluia! Amen!
Grandchildren are the reward of old…ish people. And laughter continues to be the best medicine. ~ Anne
