“In days to come the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains and shall be raised above the hills; all the nations shall stream to it.” ~ Isaiah 2:2 NRSV
We ended our time at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom heading toward Cinderella’s Castle, perched on the highest hill in Disney World to see the fireworks up close. We had just finished dinner and made our way onto Main Street, USA. People from all over the world, with different skin colors, speaking different languages formed a human stream flowing toward the castle to get the best view possible.
It was the biggest crowd we’d encountered, and it was all we could do to hold hands and keep moving onward and upward toward our goal. Changing spotlights turned the castle from white to shades of green and blue, to purple, and then into one huge ornately wrapped Christmas gift.

The lights dimmed, the music from Disney movies began to swell, and in perfectly choreographed precision, majestic multi-colored fireworks launched, exploded, expanded, and then extinguished on their way back to earth. Smoke from the explosions formed into what looked like cloud nebula.
I couldn’t help but think of the hopeful words of Isaiah 2, “In days to come the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains and shall be raised above the hills; all the nations shall stream to it.” Not yet, but in days to come, all will be made well. Wars will cease. Weapons of destruction will be turned into tools to nurture life, wars will cease, and all the nations and the peoples will walk in the light of the Lord.
To our granddaughters, this was the highlight of the visit to the Magic Kingdom. For me, it was a foretaste of what will be when all is made right. That is my hope, the vision I hold onto despite wars and mass shootings and climate change. If Disney can create such majesty and beauty, imagine what God can do! This is the image of hope that will keep me going in this Advent Season.
Let us walk in the Light of the Lord. ~ Anne
