For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~ Romans 8:38-39
Rod and I are sitting near the gate for our flight to Ocean Springs, MS. For the third time in 18 months, a family member has died. Rod’s Dad and Mom died seven months apart after long and good lives, living independently until their nineties.
Sunday, Rod’s brother-in-law died a week after turning 70. He was a good man and provider. His family was complicated, but that didn’t prevent him from connecting with his numerous grandchildren.
One of his granddaughters wrote this about him: “Pawpaw took me to church and helped me learn about Jesus. I remember how he loved to sing hymns in church. I know I’ll get to see him again”
I can’t think of a better testimony to his life.
Phil fought a ten-year battle with prostate cancer which had advanced before he was diagnosed. Early detention would have given him many more years of life. That is a reminder for the men in the family to be checked regularly.
Phil’s passing reminds me that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Jesus.
Please pray for the family that has suffered so many recent deaths.
I will miss Phil’s gentle nature and his quirky interests. ~ Anne
