Renewed Strength

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength; they will fly up on wings like eagles; they will run and not be tired; they will walk and not be weary.” ~ Isaiah 40:31 CEB

By the time this is posted on Wednesday in the US, we should be at the Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela at the 0.0 Km mark. I have 12.8 Km to go as I write this.

Something unexpected happened when I passed the 25 Km milepost. I got a second wind. I felt pulled by Santiago, and full of anticipation. I had been slowly savoring each step, each vista. Suddenly I picked up my pace, aches gone, like the Tin Man after getting his rusty joints oiled.

I don’t look forward to the end of this pilgrimage, and at the same time I sense something similar to what Isaiah 40 describes as renewed strength. Although far from flying, I felt like my stride was fluid and almost effortless. It was wonderful!

Me between the E and the S of an enormous Santiago de Camino sign.

I will be finished with the Camino tomorrow, but

the Camino will not be finished with me. And that is pure joy.

With gratitude for this journey ~ Anne
