“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning, great is your faithfulness.” ~ Lamentations 3:22-23 NRSVUE
The prophet Jeremiah, known as the weeping prophet, wrote two books that are included in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament). One is a book of prophecy, called Jeremiah. The other is a book of lament, named Lamentations.
Everything was falling apart in his beloved nation. Leaders refused to follow God, refused to listen to spiritual reason. He wrote, “my soul is bereft of peace; I have forgotten what happiness is.” It’s easy to feel the same way in this season when so much news seems to be bad news.
He must have been an early riser or perhaps in his despair he had sleep problems. He was up early. The colors of the sunrise caught his eye. And just like that, he found himself in liminal space, between night and day, between despair and hope. In that moment, Spirit showed up with light and color and a lifting of the veil.
As certain as the sunrise is God, with us through the darkness of night, bearing new mercies, great faithfulness with each sunrise.

God’s mercies are new every morning, great is your faithfulness! ~ Anne
