This is a special edition for this trying time, when we have discovered that no one is above COVID19, not presidents, senators, governors, or us. My portion of the worship service has already been recorded, so I was not able to include the most recent events in our nation. My prayer this day includes some words adapted from the Book of Common Prayer: “The Prayer for Sound Government” as well as my own thoughts. I invite you to join with me in prayer:

Holy God, you alone are our Governor, our Sovereign, our All. We ask that you bless our leaders, and those called to run for positions of leadership; in our world, and in our beloved nation. We pray that we may be people at peace among ourselves and that we might be a blessing to other nations of the earth. Keep this nation, and all nations, under your care.

We pray for President Trump and his wife, Melania, and for all who are afflicted by COVID19. In your mercy, visit them with gifts of your Spirit: love, grace, and peace. Sickness brings us down, reduces us, humbles us, teaches us about the preciousness and the fragility life. May it also raise us up to be better people, living for you and your glory.

Help us to remember that all of us are your children, those we agree with, and those with whom we disagree. Help us to pray for all of your children, especially those who are sick and those who are grieving. May they come to know how much you love them, so they might come to know and practice loving you and loving neighbor in grateful response to your unfathomable love.

Teach us and all people to rely on your strength and to accept responsibilities to our fellow citizens. May we elect trustworthy leaders and make wise decisions for the well-being of our nation and your world. May we serve you faithfully in our generation, that our actions may honor your holy Name alone.

Turn our hearts, and our hope, to you alone. For yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Amen.

Choose faith, hope and love ~ Anne
