“Your word is so pleasing to my taste buds— it’s sweeter than honey in my mouth!” ~ Psalm 119:103 CEB

Izzy and Jackson greeted us at the door when Rod and I returned from dinner at the Edinburg Mill with yelps of delight (and not a hint of guilt). It was then that I noticed one of my socks on the family room floor. I figured that Jackson had upped his thieving escapades from taking trash out of trash cans to stealing socks I’d left in my shoes. I climbed the stairs to investigate and was shocked and appalled when I saw what was spread all over my office floor.
My work backpack, which I’d left on the rocking chair was lying open on the floor, emptied of all its contents with the exception of my reading glasses. A leather business card holder lay half chewed with business cards strewed about. A small sleeve of throat lozenges lay next to it, along with an empty Ziplock snack bag I’d tucked away to reuse, a blue and white patterned lens clothe for cleaning eyeglasses, an opened plasticized folder with the documents that had been in it spread out for easy reading, several shredded Kleenexes, and torn apart bag of Mini Bear Honey Graham Cookies (one of my sweet indulgences). Since the dogs didn’t eat their dinner, I knen where those cookies went.
Jackson, along with Izzy, had managed to pull the backpack off the rocker, muzzled in through the partly open zipper, and rummaged through the contents. The evidence indicated that they’d sniffed out the sweet smell of honey grahams and managed to tear open the bag to eat the cookies. How amazingly persistent and rascally dogs can be when they get a whiff of something that smells and tastes good to them!
I was reminded of Psalm 119:103, “Your word is so pleasing to my taste buds— it’s sweeter than honey in my mouth!” (CEB). Psalm 119 is the longest Psalm in the Bible with 176 verses. That is as long as the books of Philippians, James, and Ruth! It is a masterpiece of Hebrew poetry, divided into 22 stanzas, each with 8-two-line verses. Each stanza begins with a letter from the Hebrew alphabet in order. Its theme is love and adoration of God’s Word and instruction.
While we were away, Izzy and Jackson fearlessly and boldly sought out something sweet to eat – a 1 oz bag of Mini Bear Honey Grahams. Holy, loving God would that I might have such a hunger for your Word!
