As the World Turns

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” ~ Philippians 4:8

 

The big news yesterday was about the hush money trial verdict. Anyone and everyone will have opinions, and prognosticators will have a field day predicting what will happen down the road. I imagine that each of you, just like me, have opinions, have choices to make as the world turns from now to the first Tuesday in November. 

 

Even as the jury was deliberating, as the world turned, babies were being born, couples were counting down to wedding days, my two younger granddaughters reported that they had great days at school, my oldest granddaughter got the grade she needed on her anatomy final exam, and I was involved in the second presentation in two days supporting efforts to engage in safe and humble conversations with those whose experiences are different from my experiences. At the same time my father-in-law, who has lived a good and long life, is entering hospice care to provide for his needs with dignity and honesty in his last days. 

 

With each new day, and each new bit of news, we have the privilege and the responsibility of free will, of choice. Philippians was written to followers of Jesus in a similar time. They had a hard time knowing who to believe, and what was truth. Paul suggested a way to remain faithful rather than tearing each other apart.  He encouraged a change of perspective, from what was or could go wrong, to all the bad things in the world to focusing on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, anything that is excellent or praise worthy.

 

As the world turns today, we have a choice to do the same. What will you choose? ~ Anne
