It’s been 15 months since we had to put Kiko, our Border Collie down. I started seriously looking for a new dog in January. My ideal dog was a mini Bernedoodle who was past the puppy stage.
There were two dogs I pursued, but other people beat me to the adoption. Then eight days before Easter I received a text message from my daughter-in-law that a friend of a friend had two mini Labradoodles they needed to get rid of due to terrible allergic reactions by one of their sons.
Sixteen-pound Izzy, age six:

They are children of the same mother and father, siblings from different litters. The owner insisted that they be adopted together since they been together for five years.
I told her I was interested, but would need to process such a decision with my husband. I told her our circumstances, one retired, and my a half time pastor, about our fenced in yard, about the other dogs we raised, and my desire to adopted an older, already housebroken and trained pet. I promised to call her back after talking to Rod.
Rod, after clarifying that they were neutered said, “I want you to be happy. Go for it.”
Yesterday picked Izzy and Jackson up in Mechanicsville and brought them home. Izzy put herself to bed in her crate Friday night, and Jackson followed her. They slept through the night and we had a good day of getting to know each other.
It’s a new adventure having two dogs. They entertain each other, including fighting over toys, like to go for walks, and enjoy affection.
Izzy is an expert at tearing apart toys to get the stuffing out. Jackson is an expert at following me everywhere.
