“As Jesus and his disciples were going into Bethsaida, some people brought a blind man to him and begged him to touch the man. Jesus took him by the hand and led him out of the village, where he spit into the man’s eyes. He placed his hands on the blind man and asked him if he could see anything. The man looked up and said, “I see people, but they look like trees walking around.” ~ Mark 8:22-24 CEV
I can relate to the blind man upon whose eyes Jesus placed spit in order to heal him. After Jesus did this, he asked the man if he could see anything. The man looked up and said, “I see people, but they look like trees walking around.” I had the second cataract surgery a week ago. I am thankful no spit was used. I can see distances better than I have since I was in elementary school, so in that sense the surgery is a success. But when I try to read or work on the computer, what are supposed to be words look more like random marks marching across the pages than discernable words.
Hear what happened next in the case of the man who saw people, but they looked like trees walking around. “Once again Jesus placed his hands on the man’s eyes, and this time the man stared. His eyes were healed, and he saw everything clearly. Jesus said to him, “You may return home now, but don’t go into the village.” Mark 8:25-26 CEV
It is hard to wait for most things. I am growing impatient during this in-between time while my eyes heal, and my near vision stabilizes. I most likely won’t be able to get new glasses until four to six weeks following the second surgery. In the meantime, I am keeping reading glass manufacturers and retailers in business.
I take comfort in the passage from Mark. We are not alone in our waiting. ~ Anne
