I thought I’d have to drag the girls out of the Water Park, but to my great surprise the one activity that wanted to do a second time was Oliver’s Mining Sluice. For the low, low price of $12.99, you get a three pound bag of dirt with some gemstones mixed in, dump it into a mining pan, dip it in the sluice of muddy water, shake it and feel amidst the mud for gems. The keepsake bag can be used to carry your gemstones home.
The girls were determined and persistent, seeking out every little, tiny speck of stone out of the dirt. It was wet, and messy, and worth every penny spent to see their delight.
Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:7 point to the generosity of God who “gives good things to those who ask.” Gemstones of grace, and love, and presence and peace that are more precious than gold. If two little girls can persist in seeking, maybe I can, too.
