And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, you know.” ~ Ezekiel 37:3 CEB
I was able to set aside most of Thursday and Friday to help with renovations to a house the church is renovating to partner with Shenandoah Alliance for Shelter to provide temporary housing for homeless families.
There have been many surprises in this process, as happens whenever you renovate old houses. Tearing out a wall to make small repairs uncovers more things that need to be fixed. When floating walls were uncovered, the thought went through my mind that it might be a blessing for the house to fall apart so we can start over from scratch. (Floating walls are walls that are no longer connected to the floor…not a good thing at all.)
The rotted wood in the corner of the bathroom wall pictured below is probably the last thing that needs to be torn out. When I saw how much rot was there, the words that came to mind were from Ezekiel 37, “Can these bones live?” Not if I’m doing the work, but in the hands of a master craftsman, that which seems impossible is possible with God.

Spirit of God, working along side us, breathe life into what seems beyond hope. ~ Anne
